About JMCH

Established in 1979, Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH) is one of the oldest and most respected medical institutions in Assam, India. Affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), we have been at the forefront of medical education, research, and patient care for over four decades.

Our campus spans over 50 acres in Jorhat, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including a 750-bed teaching hospital, modern laboratories, digital libraries, and advanced research centers. The college offers undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD/MS), and diploma programs across various specialties. Our curriculum blends traditional medical knowledge with contemporary technological advancements, ensuring our graduates are well-prepared for the evolving healthcare landscape.

With a faculty of over 150 experienced doctors and researchers, and an annual intake of 150 MBBS students, JMCH plays a pivotal role in addressing the physician shortage in the region. Our hospital handles more than 200,000 outpatient visits and 15,000 inpatient admissions annually, offering services in general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, orthopedics, cardiology, neurology, and more.

JMCH is deeply involved in community outreach programs, conducting health camps, vaccination drives, and awareness campaigns in rural areas of Assam. We collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and international institutions to improve public health infrastructure.

Accredited with 'A' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), JMCH continuously strives for improvement. Recent infrastructure upgrades include a new cardiac catheterization lab, neonatal ICU, and telemedicine facilities connecting remote villages.

A 5.5-year program (including internship) with comprehensive training in basic and clinical sciences. The curriculum follows NMC guidelines, featuring early clinical exposure, skill labs, and community postings. Admission through NEET-UG, with 150 seats annually.

Admission Process & Eligibility

Admission to MBBS is based on NEET-UG scores and state counseling. Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, with minimum 50% marks (40% for reserved categories). For PG courses, NEET-PG scores and central counseling are used. International students can apply through the Ministry of External Affairs, India.

The academic calendar runs from August to July. Fees are as per Government of Assam regulations: approximately INR 25,000 per year for MBBS (general category), with scholarships for SC/ST/OBC and economically weaker sections. Hostel facilities are available for both male and female students with mess, WiFi, and recreational amenities.

24/7 cardiac care with ECG, echocardiography, stress testing, and CCU. Advanced interventions like angiograms and pacemaker implants performed by experienced cardiologists.

Our cardiology unit handles over 5,000 consultations yearly. We run a heart failure clinic and rehabilitation program. Tele‑cardiology services extend to district hospitals.

Pediatrics & Neonatology

Recent projects include a study on antibiotic resistance patterns in Assam, community‑based intervention for hypertension control, vaccine hesitancy in tribal populations, and traditional medicine efficacy. JMCH publishes 50+ research papers annually in indexed journals.
